James R. Doolittle
James Rood Doolittle (January 3, 1815 - July 23, 1897) served in the United States Senate for the state of Wisconsin from 1857 to 1869. He was originally a member of the Democratic Party as a circuit court judge, until the repeal of the Missouri Compromise in 1854 caused him to become a member of the Republican Party. In 1871 he again became a member of the Democratic Party and ran as an unsuccessful candidate for Governor of Wisconsin.
