Jayanagar

Jayanagar is a residential area of Bangalore, Karnataka, India. Believed to be one of the largest residential area in Asia, Jayanagar is located to the south of Bangalore city. Jayanagar is made of nine blocks, of which the 3rd and 4th block are commerical hubs, while the rest are mostly residential.

Jayanagar is also one of the oldest localities in Bangalore. It has a substantial population of long-term, mostly Kannada-speaking, residents. Since the early 1990s, it has had an influx of people from many parts of India, making it a multicultural cosmopolitan suburb. Jayanagar is home for well-educated people and professionals like doctors, lawyers, and software engineers. Some of the residents are business owners or entreprenuers, but there is an increasing trend of home-based businesses growing here, especially those run by women.

Prominent Jayanagar residents include Narayana Murthy, the founder of Infosys Technologies, Girish Karnad, theatre and film personality, and Anil Kumble, the star cricket player of India.

Getting There

Jayanagar is well connected with the city by public buses. One can take route 18 from the city central bus station for a very nominal fare. You can also hire a auto rikshaw (three wheeler automotive, counterpart of tuk-tuk) or a city taxi from anywhere in the city.
