Jin Chonshu

Jin Chonshu (秦崇秀) is a video game character who was introduced by SNK Playmore from their Fatal Fury fighting game series and also makes an appearance in NEOGEO Battle Coliseum .

Jin Chonshu was apparently born on June 6, 1980, in China, which seems to contrast with his claim that he has been around for twenty two hundred centuries. His height is 1.70 m, or 5'6". His favorite hobby is travelling, his favorite food is anything spicy, the only sport he does not like is anything that doesn't use a ball. His brother Chonrei is what is most important to him. Chonshu hates deep-sea fish. His favorite music consists of anime theme songs. He is also very sarcastic, but not malignant about it.

Jin Chonshu first appeared in Fatal Fury as one of three bosses in Fatal Fury (Garou Densetsu 3), supposedly appearing to be the last boss following Ryuji Yamazaki. In actuality, he was not the real last boss. If the player performed well, Jin Chonshu's brother Jin Chonrei would be fought as the true last boss afterwards.

Chonshu is one of the two Jin Brothers who search for an item stolen from them, the Jin Scrolls or Scrolls of Immortality. They know it is in Fatal Fury's Southtown, and in Fatal Fury 3 send Ryuji Yamazaki to search the city. As the game begins the Scrolls are a mystery to the player. However, after defeating Yamazaki, who seems like the last boss, Jin Chonshu makes a sarcastic remark that varies on the player's character. The player is then summoned forcibly by Chonshu to the domain of the Jin Brothers in Southtown, Delta Park.

Here, Jin Chonshu greets the player's character. He tells them that it he has been twenty-two hundred centuries and it is discovered what the Jin Scrolls are: a way to fully power the Jins into becoming rulers of the world, something that Chonshu intends to become. Then Chonshu proceeds to the fight, and is accompanied by one of the most beautiful orchestral pieces produced in a fighting game (especially apparent in the Neo Geo CD version and beautifully remade in the Garou Symphonic Sound Trax, composed by the Shinsekai Gakkyoku Zatsugidan and arranged by Fumio Yasuda and Macky) as well as three stages: a stage with a dragon statue at the center and surrounding green forestry; a stage with two dragon statues at each sides and blue falls in the background; and a stage with bone dragons, covered in fire.

If the player did not do well throughout the course of the game, then the player's character would fight Chonshu in one of the first two stages. Otherwise, Chonshu would fight in the third stage. After defeating Chonshu, his older brother Jin Chonrei appears, and becomes extremely angry, promising that the player will not leave here alive. Regardless of whether or not Chonrei was reached, the player's character's ending would play afterwards.

After the events of Fatal Fury 3, Geese Howard escapes with the Jin Scrolls and tries to attain immortality with them. The fighters of Southtown seek to stop him, and Terry Bogard manages to reach him at his infamous tower. The eternal enemies fight. As they do so, Jin Chonshu and Jin Chonrei sneak towards the Jin Scrolls. After Terry defeats Geese, he is too late to stop the Jin Brothers from reaching the Scrolls.

However, in a surprising turn of events, Chonrei tears up the scrolls despite Chonshu's protestation and tears. Chonrei explains to Chonshu that it is better for them to live normal lives and kids rather than continue their cursed existence as immortals. Chonshu eventually agrees, and both of them leave.

Trivia

In the events of Real Bout Fatal Fury 2 it would appear that in Chonshu's ending, Chonshu becomes a student under Kim Kaph Wan. In Chonrei's ending, Chonrei becomes a pupil of Tung Fu Rue. Although it is in question whether or not certain events of Real Bout Fatal Fury 2 are canon to the story of Fatal Fury, these endings are usually accepted as what eventually happened to the Jin Brothers.

Contrary to popular belief, Jin Chonshu is not female.

His theme in Fatal Fury 3 is called Pandora's Box 1, while his remade theme on the Garou Symphonic Sound Trax is called First Out of Pandora's Box "An Encounter".

He makes a cameo in King of Fighters 2002 with his brother in one of the stages.

SNK Playmore recently decided to make Chonshu along with his brother Jin Chonrei playable characters in the 2005 title, NEOGEO Battle Coliseum.

Jin Chonshu is voiced by Kappei Yamaguchi, who not only does the voice for Chonshu's brother Chonrei, but also the voice of Kudou Shinichi in the anime Detective Conan (known as Case Closed in the United States).
