Jock Wallace
Jock Wallace (? - 1996) was a professional football (soccer) player and manager.
Wallace, in relation to his highly successful managerial career, had a relatively low-key playing career. He was a goalkeeper and played for Airdrie United F.C., West Brom, Berwick Rangers F.C., Hereford United F.C. and non-league team Bedford F.C. .
In 1968 he was appointed manager of Hearts F.C. and in 1970 he was brought in as coach of Rangers F.C. by manager Willie Waddell. In a great partnership with Waddell, he helped Rangers win the 1972 Cup Winners Cup.
After the European triumph, Waddell left his post as manager to take a behind-the-scenes role and Wallace was appointed as manager. In his first season in charge he won the Scottish Cup and in 1974-1975 he finally broke Celtic's dominance and won the League championship for the first time in eleven years. The next season he won the treble which was also won in season 1977-1978 making him the only manager to win three Scottish domestic trebles in three seasons. Despite this success, Waddell stunned the fans by resigning as manager in 1978 after a dispute with the Rangers board.
Wallace then went to English Leicester City F.C. and steered them back to the old first division (Now the Premiership) and also took them to the FA Cup semi-finals. He returned to Scotland 1982, taking charge of Motherwell F.C. and the following year he was appointed as Rangers manager following the departure of John Greig. Despite winning two League Cup's Waddle's second spell with Rangers was unsuccessful with Celtic, Aberdeen and Dundee United now the dominant forces in Scottish football, he left Rangers in 1986. He then had short spells in Spain and England with Seville and Colchester United F.C. respectively.
