Joe Christmas
Joe Christmas is a fictional character, one of the central characters in the 1932 novel Light in August by William Faulkner.
He is half black and half white, and his initials allude to Jesus Christ. Near the ending of the novel, his role as a "Christ figure" becomes clear. His search for racial identity is central to the work. One critic described him as the loneliest character in american literature.
