Johannes Franciscus Abraham Karel van Benthem
Johannes Franciscus Abraham Karel (Johan) van Benthem (1949-) is a professor of logic at the University of Amsterdam (in the ILLC) and Stanford University (in the CSLI ). Before moving to Amsterdam, he was professor of logic at the University of Groningen.
Van Benthem is known for his research in the area of modal logic. This research has resulted in Van Benthemīs Theorem, which states that modal logic is the fragment of classical logic that is closed under bisimulation.
Van Benthem has also been active in the field of categorial grammar.
