John Buchanan (American politician)

This article is about the American Politician. See John Buchanan for the Nova Scotia Premier.

John Buchanan was a Republican candidate in the 2004 Presidential race. He is a former journalist who lives in Miami, Florida.

He has written a screenplay called Operation Clear-Vision on the subject of the Bush family, pharmaceutical companies and biological weapons research. It was during the research for this project that he would work on his most important job as a journalist- he discovered documents related to Prescott Bush's business dealings with Nazi industrialist Fritz Thyssen, which he has since drawn much public attention to [1]. He has also co-written (with Stacy Michael) articles on the matter for the New Hampshire Gazette [2]. Since the publication of these articles there have been a series of incidents involving various levels of law enforcement (from the local Miami police to the Secret Service). They claim that they have received tips that Buchanan is plotting to assassinate President George W. Bush. Buchanan believes that this is harassment from Bush supporters. Indeed, when he ran for the Republican nomination he encountered problems with the New Hampshire GOP head Jayne Millerick , whom he claims instructed "thugs" to remove him from her office [3]. He calls himself "an honest Republican".

Buchanan has said that the Bush administration wanted the September 11, 2001 attacks to occur because they knew they could be exploited to gain support for questionable plans outlined by the Project for the New American Century. During his campaign, he often referred to himself as "the 9/11 Truth Candidate". He also opposed the 2003 Iraq war, which he considers war profiteering through Halliburton and the Carlyle Group.

Buchanan received 1.23% in the New Hampshire primary.
