"A gang of youths used a samurai sword to hack to death a former French kickboxing champion on Reunion Island in the Indian Ocean yesterday, police in the French territory said. Johnny Catherine, 34, was killed when about 20 youths set upon him with the sword and a baseball bat. They sliced into his body until they finally chopped off his leg below the knee and carried it away 'like a trophy,' one police officer said. The motive behind the attack on Catherine, who was the world's top lightweight kickboxer in 1997, was not immediately known."
