Josefa Ortiz de Domínguez (1768-1829) supported Mexican War of Independence.
It was born in 1768, the city of Mexico. From very small it lost to his parents, being under the shelter of his sister, Doña Maria Sotero Ortíz. His father was a captain of the regiment called of "Dwelled", that died in an action military. 1789, the 21 years of age he entered the class of porcionistas in the School of San Ignacio or the Vizcaínas, where he remained until 1791 in which he was removed from the school by Don Miguel Domínguez , who knew it in a visit that did to the establishment, and it fell in love with her.
That same year married with Mr. Domínguez, marching to Querétaro, where he fungía like corregidor.
It always showed to Doña Josefa an extraordinarily energetic character, at the same time that was charitable and generous, to the end of helping to the abandoned ones with its goods, and curing to the patients with its own hands. Perhaps for that reason it embraced the ideas of independence of the New Spain, to redeem to all the forgotten ones the Spanish government, as they were the poor Indians and racially mixed classes. To it it contributed that good looking Ignacio captain Beyond , who outside one of the main promoters of the independence war, outside fiancè and presumed husband of one of the daughters of the corregidor of Querétaro.
With such enthusiasm and faith it embraced the cause of Independence Doña Josefa, who convinced her husband so that she lent his house, with the intention of which in her held the meetings of the conspiradores. And as if it was little, it spent most of his fortune in fomenting the insurrection. In that one time it was not taught to write to the women, because one said that in that form the one was avoided who wrote to their fiancès or pretendientes; but they learned to read, reason why Doña Josefa, who did not know to write or to draw the letters, ingeniaba standing out of newspapers the letters, to form with them words that beat in papers, forming therefore the messages that it sent to Beyond and to Hidalgo priest , visible heads of the conspiracy, communicating to them the warnings who would have to know with opportunity, through a missile specialist who served as mail.
Allende and Hidalgo had indicated 1º of October of 1810 so that the armed rebellion against the virreinal government exploded; but the 11 of September of that year was exposed to the conspiracy by the captain Aryan and sergeant Garrido; the 14 the virrey issued orders to the corregidor Domínguez of which it searched the house of Don Epigmenio González , one of the conspiradores, in search of the arms that were said were there being stored. Hardly the corregidora knew that the conspiracy had been discovered, hurried to communicate such news to the heads of the insurrection.
The night of the 13 of September the corregidor, after revealing to its wife whatever occurred, around the independence conspiracy, locked up it with key in its rooms, afraid of which it did something that jeopardized to them to all, while it arranged itself to search the house of Don Epigmenio González on the following day; but Doña Josefa could communicate through the door closed with the mayor of the jail, Don Ignacio Perez, who was of the sworn in ones, and with him control to warn Beyond a San Miguel the Great one what occurred. The 14 sent the corregidora to urge to the captain Aryan so that they rose immediately in arms; but this one also exposed then to the corregidor and its wife, who was catched.
The corregidor was sent to the convent de la Cruz and his wife to the monastery of Santa Clara; that one left its prison soon, because the town rebelled, requesting its freedom, whereas Doña Josefa was sent to Mexico, with a strong escort. It was boarding school in the convent of Santa Clara, where it was shut in from the year of 1813 to the year of 1817, in which it was set free to him under promise of which nothing would do please in the insurgency. Agustín de quizo Iturbide to make it lady of honor, emperatríz, her wife; but it did not accept such honor, not being in favor of the Empire. It lived in the city of Mexico, and died the 2 of March of 1829.
