Junior (footballer)
He was born in Paraíba, a state in the north-east region of Brazil, and started playing football professionally in Rio de Janeiro.
Junior was one of the most popular players from Flamengo. His real name is Leovegildo.
He played in two different positions, as a left defender and in the middle-field. For his ability and command on the field he was known as "maester" (maestro in portuguese).
After the end of his career he organized and championed a new sport in Brazil: beach soccer . The sport is very popular in Brazil, and nowadays has regional, national and international competitions. Beach soccer is not recognized by FIFA, but, in some years it may well become official, as happened with futsal.
