Kópavogur is the second-largest city in Iceland with a population of about 25,000. It lies south of Reykjavík and is a part of the greater Reykjavík area .
Kópavogur will be long remembered as the site of the Kópavogur meeting where bishop Brynjólfur Sveinsson and lögmaður Árni Oddsson on behalf of the Icelandic people signed a document confirming total monarchy for the king of Denmark over Iceland.
