Kachin State

Kachin is a state of Burma. Its capital is Myitkyina.

Kachin State is in the northen part of Myanmar, and it has many ethnic groups such as Burmese, Kachin (Jinghpaw, Rawang , Lisu, Zaiwa , Lawngwaw , Lachyit ), Indians and some Shan.

The main language is Myanmar and all of the people can speak Myanmar. But Kachin is the main language among Kachin people and some ethnic people can even speak Kachin. There are many religions such as Buddhists, Christians, Hindus, Muslim and Animist. But among the Kachin people, approximately 97% are christians (mainly Baptist and Catholic). Kachin people are known to come down from Tibet long time ago. Kachin people are now living mainly in Kachin state but there are some living in China and India.

Geography

Most remote areas are mountains. It has three seasons Summer, Rainy and Cold. In summer, it is hot sometimes as over 100F. In rainy season, it is rain all the time, sometimes the rain does not stop for a week. In the cold season, it is cold as low as around 40F.

History

When the Japanese came to Kachin State, they proudly fought against their enemies. They also served in British army and fought bravely for their lands. Kachin State was a free land before British and Japanese came. When Myanmar had their independence from the British in 1947, Kachin State was part of the federal state of Myanmar. But General Nay Win occupied the whole Myanmar including Kachin State in 1960 and setup the Social Republic of Myanmar.

Kachin State becomes one of the state of Myanmar under military government. But, Kachin Independence Army (KIO) fought against the government for their brutal dictatorship till now as they process onto peace process. Products include rice, sugar cane, cane, gold and jade. Jade is the most popular valueable source from Kachin State and it has a good market place in china. Kachin state can be reached by airplane, train, and car. Recreation area in Myitkyina includes Karing Naw and Myitsone (confluence). Economic are under lower income. Most of the family dependent upon one's (mostly father)income and unemployment rates are very high. Most of the Kachin people relying on farms. It has three colleges and university: Myitkyina University, the main university, Educational college in Myitkyina and Moe Nyin college in Moe Nyin. Beyond that it has many schools such as nursing schools, computer schools and techincal schools. It also has one theological college calls Kachin Theological College in Myitkyin).
