Kai Hiwatari is the leader of the Bladebreakers team in the manga beyblade.

He is shown as a cold and rather uncaring guy with a shady past. He trains the team strictly and is the wielder of the bitbeast Dranzer.

Dranzer is a phoenix. Kai's beybattle moves are: Fire Arrow, Spiral Survivor, Blazing Gig, Volcano Emission and Flame Saber. His beyblade is dark blue.

His beyblades are: Dranzer S (spiral) Dranzer V (volcano) Drazner G (Gigus)

Kai has slate blue hair which is darker at the back and 4 blue shark fin shaped triangles on his cheeks. He has purpley-gray eyes.

Kai's attire changes throughout the three series. In the first series Kai has a black tank top with red edges and 4 yellow triangles on the top, a long white scarf tied behind his neck, blue cargo trousers, a belt with a <=> shaped silver buckle and black boots.

In Beyblade V Force his attire is a dark purple tank top with red edges and red loops that ahng from his top across his shoulders, grey cargo trousers with red loops attached to the sides,brown boots, no scarf, a belt with a <'> shaped silver buckle and separate dark purple sleeves with 2 silver bracelets in an arrow shape on each wrist.

In Beyblade G Revolution his outfit is dark purple cargo trousers, a belt with the same sharp silver buckle, a long white scarf, a dark tank top, a small black jacket with markings on and black fingerless gloves.

A classic Kai pose is him leaning against the wall with his arms folded, head bowed and eyes closed. Kai often closes his eyes and appears to ignore his less matureteam mates who annoy him.

But Kai is always there for the team when they are in trouble and they are always trying to be closer friends with him and get him to lighten up.

Kai can be a loner. Hetalks little and often just says "Hn" or ignores the person. Tyson really annoys him and they are fierce rivals when judging who is the better blader.

His grandfather is Voltaire Hiwatari who founded a harsh beyblade training school where the children 'disappeared' if they did something wrong. They went through strict and cruel training routines. The Abbey's trainer is Boris Balkov.

Kai did not have a pleasant childhood at the Abbey yet he still tries to make his grandfather proud of him.

Kai used to be a member of the Demolition Boys, the Abbey's finest bladers.

When he was five he was attracted to the power of Black Dranzer, a dark version of his own bitbeast. Enchanted by this power he took the beyblade from its high security place and launched it. This caused the whole Abbey to be destructed and the force of it gave him amnesia.

Kai was the leader of a gang called the Bladesharks.

After winning a beyblade tournament in the country he was assigned captain of the other 3 best bladers.

During the world championships his grandfather lured him over to the power of Black Dranzer yet again and the dark bitbeast controlled him. He mercilessly destroyed other opponents blades, he betrayed the team and turned back to the Demolition Boys, he captured all the losers' bitbeasts so the power could be used by his Grandfather for world domination.

His team brought Kai to his senses and taught him the meaning of true friendship.

Kai is undoubtedly the best beyblader, he fully udnerstands all aspects of beyblading and his relationship with his bitbeast. He also has a very pwoerful beyblading spirit.
