Kakuna (Cocoon (コクーン Kokūn) in the original Japanese) is a Stage 1 bug-type Pokémon that evolves from Weedle at level 7 and further evolves into Beedrill at level 10. Kakuna is virtually motionless; it protects itself by means of its hard shell, and can also extend a poison stinger to defend itself against attackers.

Name origin
Kakuna's name is a variation of the word cocoon. Its Japanese name, Cocoon, is the word "Cocoon."
Availability
In Pokémon Red/Blue, Kakuna can be found in the Viridian Forest . In Yellow, Kakuna can only be obtained by trading from another cartridge. In Pokémon Gold/Silver/Crystal, Kakuna can be found in the National Park and - in Silver/Crystal - in Ilex Forest . In Pokémon Sapphire/Ruby, Kakuna is not available at all.
Kakuna also appears in the Nintendo 64 game Pokémon Snap.
Strengths / weaknesses
Kakuna is vulnerable to Fire, Flying, Psychic, Rock and - in Pokémon Red/Blue/Yellow - Bug, and strong against Grass, Fighting and - in Pokémon Gold/Silver/Crystal - Poison and Bug.
Anime Appearances
Kakuna first appeared in the Pokémon Anime when Ash was going through Viridian Forest. Since then it has appeared every now and then as a cocoon that's literally just "hanging around". A running gag in the series is to have people bump into trees and then each stage of a Beedrill evolution to drop out (Weedle, then Kakuna), then the Beedrill attack them.
