KallistiOS

KallistiOS (KOS) is a free, BSD licensed development system for the Sega Dreamcast game console created by a team of free software developers over the internet. It has been used to create both homebrew and commercial games such as Feet of Fury, Inhabitants and Maqiupai.

KallistiOS and Kalisto

Although similar in name, the developers of KallistiOS claim no relationship to the warez group Kalisto who pioneered piracy of the Dreamcast by being the first group to discover how to rip Dreamcast GD-ROM games to recordable CD-Rs without the need for a bootdisk.

Pronounciation

Kallisti, meaning "to the fairest" in Greek, was the inspiration for naming the system. Pronounciations include Kallisti-O's (like a breakfast cereal); Kallisti O.S. (like an operating system); or the short abbreviation, KOS, may be pronounced as "chaos".
