Kalonymus Haberkasten
Kalonymus Haberkasten was a rabbi and Talmudist in sixteenth century Poland. He is well known as the Rosh yeshiva of many great Rishonim including Joshua Falk and Solomon Luria; his daughter Lipka married Luria. He was rosh yeshivah in Lemberg. He was later the first known rabbi of the city of Ostrog, Volhynia. Haberkasten left Ostrog to assume the position of rosh yeshiva in Brisk and Luria succeeded him to the rabbinate in Ostrog. Haberkasten then went to Palestine, about 1560. Haberkasten was also a Kabbalist; he is known to have made the acquaintance of the great Kabbalists in the Holy Land, including Chaim Vital.
