Kamala Nehru
Kamala Kaul Nehru, (1899-1937) was the wife of late Jawaharlal Nehru, leader of the Indian National Congress and India's fist prime minister. Kamala wed Nehru on 8 February 1916. Their marriage was arraigned by his parents. Described as pretty, slim, and tender, Kamala was quiet, unobtrusive, and produced little impact on her husband or his career. In 1917, she gave birth to a daughter, Indira Priyadarshini Nehru Gandhi , who later succeded her father as prime minister and head of the Congress party. She died from tuberculosis in Switzerland while her husband was in prison.
