Kathleen Battle
Kathleen Battle (born August 13, 1948) is an American soprano.
She was born in Portsmouth, Ohio. Battle is known for the timbre of her lyric coloratura voice, and has been a particular favourite of conductor James Levine. Audiences have had trouble reconciling the sound of a voice that has been called 'angelic' with her reportedly eccentric and temperamental nature.
Disputes with the Metropolitan Opera in New York led to her highly-publicized firing; despite this, Kathleen Battle remains a favourite on the concert scene.
