Ken Shamrock
Ken Shamrock (born Kenneth Wayne Kilpatrick) is a mixed martial arts fighter. Ken is most well known for his participation in the Ultimate Fighting Championship, and his stint in professional wrestling World Wrestling Federation (now WWE). Shamrock first appeared in UFC #1 and is currently (2005) still making occassional appearances in UFC, perhaps giving him the distinction of the longest fighting UFC fighter to date. Shamrock is noted for his involvment in the Lion's Den, a group dedicated to the training of mixed martial arts fighters. Many Lion's Den fighters such as Pete Williams, Jerry Bolander, and Tre Telligman have achieved a modicum of sucess in mixed martial arts.
April 9, 2005, proved to be a turning point in Shamrock's career and future in mma. Main eventing the first ever UFC appearance on basic cable television, on the popular reality series "The Ulimate Fighter", Shamrock faced rising star Rich Franklin in a light heavyweight bout. Although Shamrock posessed a much deeper level of experience, he was soundly defeated by a TKO decision in the first round, thus instantly establishing Franklin as a legitimate threat to other UFC competitors.
In a post match interview, Shamrock indicated that he was unsure of his future in the UFC or mma in general.
