Kendall County is a county located in the state of Illinois. As of 2000, the population is 54,544. Its county seat is Yorkville, Illinois6. This county is part of Chicagoland.

Geography

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 836 km² (323 mi²). 830 km² (321 mi²) of it is land and 5 km² (2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.65% water.

Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 54,544 people, 18,798 households, and 14,963 families residing in the county. The population density is 66/km² (170/mi²). There are 19,519 housing units at an average density of 24/km² (61/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 92.88% White, 1.32% Black or African American, 0.19% Native American, 0.88% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 3.38% from other races, and 1.34% from two or more races. 7.49% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 18,798 households out of which 41.70% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 68.80% are married couples living together, 7.50% have a female householder with no husband present, and 20.40% are non-families. 16.40% of all households are made up of individuals and 6.10% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.89 and the average family size is 3.27.

In the county the population is spread out with 29.50% under the age of 18, 7.50% from 18 to 24, 32.40% from 25 to 44, 22.10% from 45 to 64, and 8.50% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 34 years. For every 100 females there are 98.70 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 95.90 males.

The median income for a household in the county is $64,625, and the median income for a family is $69,383. Males have a median income of $50,268 versus $30,415 for females. The per capita income for the county is $25,188. 3.00% of the population and 2.00% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 3.50% of those under the age of 18 and 4.50% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
