Keshia Chanté

Keshia Chanté is a Canadian singer of urban and R&B music. She released her first songs well before her album, and is nominated for two awards at the 2005 Juno Awards. She cites Christina Aguilera and Beyonce Knowles among her influences and currently resides in Toronto.

Biography

Born in 1988 in Ottawa, Chante her first single, "Shook (The Answer)" in early 2003. The song broke into the Top 10 on Canadian music charts and won an Urban Music Award for "Best R&B/Soul Single".

For the follow-up, "Unpredictable," she released her first video, which hit number one on YTV and the top ten on MuchMusic. In November 2003, it went gold by selling 5000 copies.

She won the Canadian Radio Music Award for "Best New Solo Artist".

In early May of 2004, Keshia's third single, "Bad Boy", was released. It was also successful, breaking the Top Ten.

Her self-titled debut album was released June 22, 2004. On December 3rd, it officially went gold. It contained her previous singles, as well her fourth "Let the Music Take You".

In October of 2004, at the Canadian Urban Music Awards Keshia swept her three nominations, winning awards for "Best New Artist", "Video of the Year" (for Bad Boy), and the "Fans' Choice Award". The month after that, she conducted an interview for BET's Rated Next , which was her first significant appearance on the American media.

For Christmas in 2004, she released a cover version of Wham!'s song "Last Christmas".

On January 10, 2005, Keshia was one of the performers at the Canada for Asia benefit concert for tsunami relief. She also released for fifth single, "Does He Love Me?" which features Foxy Brown.

She was nominated for two awards at the 2005 Juno Awards in the categories of "Best New Artist" and "R&B/Soul Recording of the Year".
