Kings—Hants

Kings—Hants is the name of a federal electoral district in Nova Scotia, Canada. Its population is 79,286. (2001)

Largely poor and rural it is a fairly conservative riding, but more in the Red Tory tradition of the rest of the Martimes with a strong concern for social programs.

Ethnic Groups: 95.7% White, 2.1% Native Canadian, 1.5% Black
Languages: 96.4% English, 1.1% French, 2.1% Other
Religions: 63.8% Protestant, 18.3% Catholic, 1.2% Other Christian, 15.9% No Affiliation
Average Income: $23,425

Geography

The district includes all of Hants County and the eastern part of Kings. Communities include East Hants , West Hants , Kentville, Windsor and Wolfville. The area is 4,440 sq. km.

History

The electoral district was created in 1976 from Annapolis Valley and from Halifax-East Hants and was known as Annapolis Valley-Hants until 1996.
