Know thyself
The aphorism "Know thyself" (Greek: gnothi seauton, Latin: Nosce te ipsum) has been attributed to at least five ancient Greek sages:
- Chilon of Sparta
- Thales of Miletus
- Socrates
- Pythagoras
- Solon of Athens
Moreover, "Know thyself" was an inscription in golden letters at the lintel of the entrance to the Temple of Apollo at Delphi:
ΓΝΩΘΙ ΣΑΥΤΟΝ
