Koca Popovic
Koča Popović (March 14, 1908 - October 20, 1992) was a communist volunteer in the Spanish Civil War, 1937-1939. In 1939 was interned in France. He joined the Partisans in 1941, commanded various units (e.g. 1st Proletarian Brigade), and was head of General Staff from 1946-1953. As Chief of General Staff conducted negotiations with representatives of Western powers associated with the modernisation of the JNA during the conflict with the USSR. He became foreign minister of Yugoslavia in 1946. Head of the Yugoslav delegation to the UN General Assembly sessions several times. Decorated with the Order of People's Hero and with other high Yugoslav and foreign decorations.
