Kohala, Hawaii
(Redirected from Kohala)
Kohala is the name of a district on the northwest portion of the island of Hawaii in the state of Hawaii. It is famous for its many popular resorts.
King Kamehameha I, the first King of Hawaii, was born in Kohala. A famous statue of him exists in the district. A more famous replica of the statue exists in Honolulu in front of Aliiolani Hale (see Kamehameha Statue).
Kohala was once the capital of the Kingdom of Hawaii, from 1810 to 1820, during the reigns of Kamehameha I and Kamehameha II. The capital of the Kingdom was later moved to Lahaina.
Kohala can also refer to the Kohala Mountains, a volcano near the town of Kohala.
