Korah
People named Korah or Kórach (קֹרַח "Baldness; ice; hail; frost", Standard Hebrew Qóraḥ, Tiberian Hebrew Qōraḥ) in the Bible:
- One of Esau's sons.
- A grandson of Esau, mentioned in Genesis. It does not appear other places than Genesis 36:16. Some believe this is actually a scribal error, and omits the name.
- A person in the genealogy of Tribe of Judah.
- A levite, son of Izhar and hence the cousin of Moses and Aaron. He is remembered for the rebellious action together with Dathan and Abiram against Moses. This story also appears in the Qur'an, where Korah is named Qarun (see Similarities between the Bible and the Qur'an).
- Mentioned in the 1768 edition of the New England Primer. Here, as part of an alphabet, we read that "Proud Korah's troop was swallowed up."
