Krishna District

Krishna District is a district of India's Andhra Pradesh state. It is named after the Krishna River which flows through the district. The district headquarters are the town of Machilipatnam. The district is bounded by Khammam District to the north, West Godavari District to the east, the Bay of Bengal to the south, Guntur District to the southwest, and Nalgonda District to the northwest.

Vijayawada is the most populated and well known city of this district. Krishna district is also considered as the hub for pre-university education in AndhraPradesh

Krishna has considerable historic significance. Historic places in the district include Bandar Port, Kondapalli Killa, and Gandhi Hill. Religiously significant places include the Kanaka Durga Temple, Gunadala Matha Shrine, and the Penuganchi Prolu Temple. It is the birth place of significant personalities in this part of the world, including N. T. Rama Rao, Pingali Venkaiah , Ayyadevara Kaleswarao , K. L. Rao , and Duggirala Gopala Krishna ,Viswanatha Satyanarayana.

Kolleru Lake, one of India's most ecologically significant wetlands, lies partly within the district.
