Krogoth
In the computer game, Total Annihilation, the Krogoth is a towering Kbot used as a late game assault unit. A Kbot (Kinetic Bio Organic Tissue) is a mechanical or cyborg unit, driven by a sentient human mind. It is distinguished from robots, androids, or other artificial intelligence by its sentient mind and by the synthetic muscles that allow it to move more efficiently. Arm Kbots are controlled by cloned pilots, similar to battlemechs. Core Kbots have their pilots' minds directly transplanted into their machinery.
Statistics
The physical dimensions of the Krogoth are unknown. A rough estimation, based upon other objects in the game, places the Krogoth from 11 to 15 meters tall (the height of the Arm "Defender" missile tower). The Krogoth is constructed by an experimental structure called a Krogoth Gantry which was created to construct only the Krogoth. The Krogoth is a heavily armored biped. It has 29,918 units of health and can be produced only by the Core race. Three distinct weapons systems allow the Krogoth to combat entire armies or bases single-handedly.
The Krogoth's head structure contains a high powered Annihilator laser (oftentimes called the BLoD), which is capable of destroying most enemies in a single deadly blow. Its range matches that of most capable artillery. It requires a great amount of energy to fire, but delivers 2,500 units of damage and possesses the greatest range out of the Krogoth's whole arsenal.
The Krogoth's arms each wield a powerful gauss cannon. Though endowed with relatively limited range, these two cannons provide a high rate of fire, allowing protection against more agile attackers.
Two large structures mounted on its back contain its ballistic (V-launch) rocket launch systems. The rockets are the least damaging of the Krogoth's arsenal, but provide effective protection from aircraft and small, lightly armored ground units.
History
The Krogoth was developed by the Core near the end of the 4th millennium as a land-based method of eradicating any surface attacks the Core might face. The experiments and prototypes were held in an isolated region of Core Prime, and were attacked when the Arm began its invasion. Although all prototype Krogoths and Krogoth Gantries were destroyed, the design had been installed into a sole surviving Core Commander. Despite the failure of its attempted contingency, the Core rapidly reappeared. It revived the long war, bringing with it the experimental Krogoth Kbot.
Krogzilla
A later mod for Total Annihilation called Uberhack finally perfected the Core's Krogoth design, making it amphibious, immune to paralyzers and more effective in terms of armor, cost, etc. Though this was merely an advanced version of the original Krogoth design, some fans of the modification affectionately referred to it (and still continue to refer to it) as "Krogzilla". The nickname is derived from Japanese movie icon Godzilla, oftentimes seen destroying cities and wading in the high seas.
