Lajes do Pico
Lajes do Picois both a parish and a district in southern part of the Azores.
The parish population in 2001 is 1,780, its density is 33.7/km² and the area is 52.83 km²/5,283 ha. It is the largest and the most populated parish in Lajes do Pico.
The location is on the southern part of the island and is connected by road. The area north are mountainous while the Atlantic Ocean is in the south. The only road linking to the northern part of the island runs through the mountain ranges of Pico.
The population is 5,041 (2001) and the area is 154.35 km. The density is 32.66/km². The district includes the southern and the eastern portion of the island of Pico. It is encircled almost entirely with the Atlantic Ocean except for the east. It is bordered by Madalena to the west and São Roque do Pico in the north and is bounded on a mountain ridge east of Pico. The island of São Jorge and the municipalities of Vela and Calheta is north and northeast.
