Laura Pausini

Laura Pausini is an Italian-born international singer. She was born in Solarolo, Italy on May 16, 1974. She started to sing in local piano bars with her father when she was 8. She became famous on February 25, 1993 when she won the prestigous Italian San Remo Music Festival with one of her most famous songs, "La Solitudine". The album was a compilation of her first two Italian CDs, Laura Pausini and Laura. She is well known for her soulful voice, romantic ballads and love songs, though she has dealt with other subjects such as poverty, war, racism and other social issues.

She recently tried to break the US market with her English language album, but though the first single Surrender was quite successful, the album was not as succeesful as planned. She has sold over 26 million records and has over 160 Platinum Albums and 1 Diamond Album. She has also won two World Music Awards in 1994 and 2003, and a I.F.P.I. Platinum Europe Award.
