Lee Siew Choh
Lee Siew Choh (1917 - 18 July 2002) was a Singaporean political figure. He trained as a medical doctor, but spent most of his life as a political leader. He served in the Legislative Assembly of Singapore following the 1959 election. In 1960 he served as the Parliamentary Secretary to the Home Affairs Secretary . In 1961 he co-founded, along with 13 other MPs, the Barisan Socialis after they broke away from the People's Action Party. He led the party in the 1963 elections winning 13 of 51 seats.
Lee Siew Choh was noted for his oratory skills - making the longest speech in the parliament of Singapore in history at seven hours, on the subject of Singapore's proposed merger with Malaya in 1961. In 1988 Barisan Socialis merged with the Workers' Party for whom he stood as candidate. He did not win a constituency but entered the Singapore parliament as a non-constituency member due to the number of votes received. He retired in 1991.
