Leganes, Iloilo
Leganes is a municipality in the province of Iloilo in the Philippines. It is located 11 km north of Iloilo City with a current population of approximately 24,000. It was originally named Valencia, but in the late 1880's two influential but unrelated Filipino families began warring other whose ancestor the town was named after, eventually the Spanish (who incidentally governed the Philippines since the mid 15th century and made the natives assume Spanish surnames), grew tired of the in-fighting and renamed the town Leganes after a city in Spain of the same name. Leganes has the Parish of St Vincent Ferrer.
