Legendary bird Pokémon

The Legendary bird Pokémon are a group of very rare Flying-type Pokémon. There are three in the original three Pokémon role-playing games and two in the second generation of Pokémon games.

Articuno, Zapdos and Moltres are three one-of-a-kind birds who appear in the original three Pokémon games: Pokémon Red, Blue, Yellow. They also appear in Red and Blue's enhanced remakes, Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen.

Ho-oh and Lugia are one-of-a-kind Pokémon who appear in the second generation of Pokémon games: Pokémon Gold, Silver, and Pokémon Crystal. In Gold and Silver, each bird will only appear if the player has their item. In Crystal, a second requirement to make Ho-oh appear was added - capturing the legendary beasts Entei, Raikou, and Suicune.

Four of the legendary birds - Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres and Lugia make an appearance in Pokémon the Movie 2000 (Revelation Lugia). All of the legendary birds have made appearances in episodes of the anime series.
