Leningrad Oblast
Leningrad Oblast (Russian: Ленингра́дская о́бласть; tr.: Leningradskaya oblast) is a federal subject of Russia (an oblast) located in the Northwestern Federal District and named after the revolutionary Vladimir Lenin. It contains Saint Petersburg (formerly known as Leningrad) but is administratively separate from it.
The oblast has an area of 85,900 km² and population 1,669,205 as of 2002 All-Russian Population Census. Aside from Saint Petersburg, Kolpino is the largest city with around 160,000 inhabitants.
