Leopoldo Alas
Leopoldo Alas (1852 - 1901) was a Spanish author, writer and critic. Wrote under the pseudonym Clarín .
Born in Zamora, but spent most of his life in Oviedo, where he held the chair of philosophy at the university. One of the best critics of his day, as well as a novelist and the writer of his epoch who most successfully cultivated the short story.
He is best known for his naturalistic novel La Regenta (1884–85), an analysis of provincial life. His other works include another novel, Su único hijo (1890), and several volumes of short stories.
