Lethal Weapon 2
Lethal Weapon 2 is the second movie in the Lethal Weapon series, released in 1989.
The sequel to Lethal Weapon is set in the Fall of 1989, Murtaugh and Riggs have been partners for two years now and are virtually inseparable. The movie begins with a car chase in which the pair follow a car which is later shown to contain golden South African krugger-rand. The gold piques the LAPD's interest and soon Riggs and Murtaugh discover a major drug-smuggling operation involving the South African Consul. Powerless to interfere in diplomatic affairs the cops are forced to rely on quasi-legal investigative measures and come up with Leo Getz (Joe Pesci), a small-time well-connected man who has laundered half a billion dollars for the South Africans but was caught doing so. As a result Riggs and Murtaugh must protect Getz from the South Africans while exposing them at the same time. While the South Africans try to intimidate Murtaugh by breaking into his family home the elder cop is unphased and succeeds in bringing the drug baron to a premature dedeath. In the movie, Riggs discovers it was one of the South Africans who murdered his wife by driving her off the road, mistaking her for Martin Riggs. The very same man, Vorsted kills Rita Von Haas, the Consul's innocent secretary who becomes Riggs' lover - the 39-year-old has now lost the two women in his life. Riggs and Murtaugh soldier on.
