Leupp (Navajo: Tsiizizii) is a census-designated place located in Coconino County, Arizona, USA. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 970.

Geography

Location of Leupp, Arizona

Leupp is located at 35°17'51" North, 111°0'20" West (35.297522, -111.005673).

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 34.0 km² (13.1 mi²). 34.0 km² (13.1 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.15% water.

Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 970 people, 228 households, and 206 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 28.5/km² (73.9/mi²). There are 277 housing units at an average density of 8.2/km² (21.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 0.62% White, 0.00% Black or African American, 98.14% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.10% from other races, and 1.13% from two or more races. 1.03% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 228 households out of which 54.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.9% are married couples living together, 29.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 9.6% are non-families. 9.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 0.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 4.25 and the average family size is 4.53.

In the CDP the population is spread out with 43.7% under the age of 18, 8.8% from 18 to 24, 25.7% from 25 to 44, 17.2% from 45 to 64, and 4.6% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 23 years. For every 100 females there are 92.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 85.1 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP is $21,458, and the median income for a family is $29,219. Males have a median income of $28,661 versus $24,531 for females. The per capita income for the CDP is $8,137. 33.4% of the population and 29.4% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 45.0% of those under the age of 18 and 43.1% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
