Lieutenant Commander Logan

Lieutenant Commander Logan, a character in the Star Trek fictional universe, was one of the first Chief Engineers of the USS Enterprise-D under captain Jean-Luc Picard. He was played by Vyto Rugins .

Little is known of Logan, and he appears only in one Star Trek: The Next Generation episode, "The Arsenal of Freedom". In 2365, Logan was apparently transferred, as Lieutenant (j.g.) Geordi La Forge was promoted to full lieutenant, transferred from command to the operations division and became the Enterprise's new chief engineer.

During the events of "The Arsenal of Freedom", Captain Picard, Commander Riker, Lieutenant Commander Data, Lieutenant Tasha Yar and Dr. Beverly Crusher beam down to the planet Minos, and Picard leaves La Forge in command of the ship. The Enterprise comes under attack, and Chief Logan comes to the bridge, demanding (because of his higher rank) that La Forge turn over command to him.

La Forge refuses, because Picard left him in charge, and in any event Logan is a snivelling little weasel who doesn't command the respect of the people he works with. Eventually, La Forge decides to separate the ship, getting the saucer section's civilian population out of danger, while returning to the planet in the battle section and confronting the enemy. La Forge puts Logan in command of the saucer section.

La Forge's plan to defeat the enemy works when Picard, on the planet, ends the "demonstration" of the planet's defensive capabilities, and the crew's able to return to the ship. La Forge manages to gain Logan's grudging respect.
