Phrases containing "Allah"

Allah is Arabic for "God" and is the only god (monotheism) in the religion of Islam.

  • Allahabad (اللهبد)("God's city"), a city in India.
  • Allahu Akbar (الله اكبر ) (God is the most great / God is greater [than to be described])
  • Bismillah or Basmala(بسم الله ) (In the name of God)
  • Ya Allah (يا الله )(Oh God)
  • Hizb Allah (God's party), name of two political movements in Lebanon and in Turkey.
  • Insha'allah (ان شاء الله ) (God Willing)
  • Masha'allah (مع شاء الله) (God has willed it) (Compare with Deus vult!)
  • Subhan Allah (Glory be to God)
  • Alhamdulillah (الحمد لله) (All praise be to God)
  • Allahu Aa'lam (God knows best)
  • Jazakh Allahu Khairan (جزاك الله خيراً ) (May God reward you for your deeds)
  • La ilaha illa Allah (لا الہ ال اللہ) (There is no god but God)
  • Salla Allahu aleyhi wasallam (صلی اللہ علیہ و سلم) (May God bless him and grant him peace)
  • Allah Hafiz (God Bless)

The Spanish word ojalá (I hope, I wish) is derived from law šá lláh, a phrase meaning "God willing." It is one of many words borrowed from Arabic due to the Muslim possession of part of Spain from the eighth to fifteenth centuries.
