Names of Professional Sports Clubs in the United States and Canada by Metropolitan Area Size

The following table gives the names of professional baseball, football, basketball, ice hockey, and soccer in order of metropolitan area size. Boldface type indicates a major league club. League is indicated in parentheses. Indications such as "AAA" and "AA" indicate the level of a minor league ("AAA" being the highest, just below major leagues). The first column indicates the number of major league clubs in that metro area. The second column indicates the rank of the metro area by population size. A city name in boldface type indicates that that metro area has at least one club in each of the top four major league sports (hockey, baseball, football, and basketball).
