- A De Havilland Comet crashed in Jalalogori , India soon after take-off from Calcutta (now Kolkata) on 2 May 1953 - first of a series of crashes that led to Comet 1 fleet being grounded and eventually scrapped.

- All Nippon Airways Flight 61 - Hijacked and taken back over Tokyo, Japan
- Japan Airlines Flight 123 - Crashed into Mount Osutaka , Japan

- Pan Am Flight 73 - Hijacked in Karachi, Pakistan.

- Iraqi Airways Hijacking - Hijacked on the way from Baghdad to Amman, later crashed after a grenade exploded

- Singapore Airlines Flight 6 - Crashed upon takeoff at Chiang Kai-shek International Airport near Taipei, Taiwan

- Lauda Air Flight 004 - Crashed into a jungle near Suphan Buri and Ban Nong Rong after an in-flight breakup

- United Airlines Flight 629 - Exploded after a bomb on board detonated over Longwood after takeoff from Stapleton Airport in Denver, Colorado - Bomb was placed by John Graham as part of a scheme to collect insurance money
- United Airlines Flight 585 - Crashed south of Colorado Springs Airport, officially attributed to a rudder system malfunction according to the NTSB.

- Northeast Airlines Flight 823 - Crashed on Rikers Island, New York City, during takeoff from LaGuardia Airport. (1957 February 1)
- TWA Flight 266 (inbound to Idlewild Airport) and United Airlines Flight 826 (inbound to LaGuardia Airport) - Collided over Miller Field, Staten Island, New York City. The TWA aircraft crashed at the site while the United aircraft continued flying for 8 miles until it crashed in the Park Slope section of Brooklyn. (1960 December 16)
