This is a list of countries that do not maintain an army.

• Andorra - Defence is provided jointly by France and Spain.
• Costa Rica - The constitution forbids a standing military, however the National Guard has military units within it.
• Haiti - But the rebels have demanded its reestablishment. The National Police maintains some military units.
• Iceland - Iceland is defended by the US-manned Icelandic Defense Force
• Kiribati - Defence assisted by Australia and New Zealand.
• Liechtenstein - defence and Foreign Affairs by Switzerland.
• Monaco - Defence is the responsibility of France.
• Nauru - Defence is the responsibility of Australia.
• Palau - Defence is the responsibility of the United States of America.
• Panama - Some units within the Public Force (Police, Coast Guard, Air Service and Institutional Security) have limited warfare capabilities. Defense of the Panama Canal may be undertaken by the U.S.A. in case of armed conflict.
• San Marino - Defence is the responsibility of Italy
• Vatican City - Defence is the responsibility of Italy, ceremonial Swiss Guard acts as a security police force.
