Lithuanian National Drama Theatre is one of the biggest theatres in Lithuania.

It was established in 1940, and 280 performances have been staged since that time. Today the repertoire of the theatre consists of the classical dramaturgy of the world and the works of the modern dramatists of the 20th century (Sophocles, W. Shakespeare, F. Garcia Lorca, Bernard-Marie Koltès , S. Beckett, R. Harwood, B.Strauss, F.Dostoyevsky) and plays of the contemporary Lithuanian writers (S. Parulskis , H. Kunčius and others). Many of the most famous Lithuanian theatre directors worked on the stage of the Lithuanian National Drama Theatre. In 1998 this theatre gained the right to be called the National theatre (before that it had the name of Academic). In 2001 the Lithuanian National Drama Theatre became the member of the European Theatre Convention.
