Lithuanian mythology
Lithuanian mythology is one of the oldest examples of pagen religions. The initial structure was based on a matriarchal system of goddesses representing various pieces of the natural world, i.e. Earth, sky moon, water, air, etc. Later incarnations took on a patriarchal format with many of the female goddesses lossing their power and significance. As the state of Lithuania was formed and Christianity was adopted the Lithuanian populace retained a strong adherence to the mythological gods.
Lithuanian mythology is very close to Latvian mythology.
