Live is an American rock band from York, Pennsylvania. Live gained international prominence in the 1990s as one of the more successful alternative rock bands of this time.

The band, formed in York, Pennsylvania, is comprised of Ed Kowalczyk (lead vocals & guitar) Chad Taylor (lead guitar), Patrick Dahlheimer (bass), and Chad Gracey (drums). Since approximately 1999, Live has toured with Ed's younger brother, Adam, and British keyboardist Michael "Railo" Railton.

The original name of the band was First Aid, formed in the early 1980s. Several name changes followed, including Public Affection, under which they released The Death of a Dictionary (1989).

After a series of unsuccessful attempts at cracking the music business, the group recruited Jerry Harrison of the Talking Heads to produce Mental Jewelry, an album based on the writings of J. Krishnamurti, an Indian philosopher. Live established a following and returned with the hugely popular album Throwing Copper, which was pushed by the success of singles Selling the Drama, I Alone and Lightning Crashes. After that, the band released four albums to limited critical and popular success (see Discography below). In 2004, Live released a greatest hits album that included alternate takes, a previously unreleased song from the Throwing Copper sessions, and a cover of Johnny Cash's dirge, I Walk the Line.

While Live remains moderately popular in the United States, the band has gained significant popularity abroad, particularly in Europe (Ed Kowalczyk: "Holland is the center of the Live universe.") and Australia.
