Liverpool John Lennon Airport

Liverpool John Lennon Airport (IATA Airport Code LPL) is a fairly small-sized aviation facility in Liverpool, 3.2 million passengers used Liverpool John Lennon Airport in 2003 . It was renamed in honour of the late John Lennon, a founding member of Liverpudlian music group The Beatles, in 2000, twenty years after Lennon's murder. Before this, the facility was known as Speke Airport (during WWII is was militarized as RAF Speke) after the southern Liverpool suburb where it is located.

On the roof is painted the airport's motto, a line from Lennon's song, "Imagine": "Above us, only sky".

Although such local airlines as BEA and later British Airways have served from time to time, the airport is basically a charter airline haven. It is capable of accepting all kinds of jets.
