Lois Maffeo
Lois is an Olympia, Washington based musician and writer.
She has been referred to as "the Grandmother of Riotgrrl," much to her dismay.
Her first foray into music was with Patrick Malley in a band called "Courtney Love." Singles released as "Courtney Love"
* Uncrushworthy • Spray (on compilation "Spray") • Hey Antoinette
After this, Lois began her solo career, generally appearing alone on stage playing guitar. She could be considered an anti-folk musician, combining the ethics and politics of punk with acoustic instrumentation. However, she has been known to play with other musicians, both onstage and off, but most particularly on her recordings. She has worked with musicians such as Donna Dresch of Team Dresch, Molly Neuman of Bratmobile and Heather Dunn of Dub Narcotic Sound System. Her recordings have been produced and co-produced by artists such as Calvin Johnson of Beat Happening and Ian MacKaye of Fugazi. As well, she has occasionally sung with bands like Dub Narcotic Sound System and others.
