William Alexander

William Alexander (born 1726 in New York, died 1783 in Albany, New York) was an American major general during the American Revolutionary War. He was known as Lord Sterling, because he claimed that he was the rightful heir to the earldom of Stirling, Scotland. Although he spent a great deal of money in trying to prove it, he was unsuccessful.
