Lugaid mac Con

Lugaid mac Con was a legendary High King of Ireland, said to have ruled in the 2nd or 3rd century. He supposedly gained his patronymic/epithet ("dog's son") after he was suckled as a child by a greyhound belonging to his foster-father. Ailill Ollamh. After a battle against Ailill's son Éogan he was exiled from Ireland, but returned with an army of Britons and other foreigners and took the High Kingship by defeating Éogan and the then High King, Art mac Cuinn.

See Lugaid for other figures of the same name, and Lug for the god the name derives from.
