Lunar House
Lunar House is a twenty storey office block on the East side (at No. 40) of Wellesley Road, Croydon. But for aliens (in the original meaning of the word) seeking to reside in the United Kingdom for asylum or other reasons, the name is a synonym world-wide for the Home Office Immigration and Nationality Directorate who occupy the building.
Next door to Lunar House at 36 Wellesley Road is a very similar block, Apollo House. This also contains government offices. Taken together the names tell us that these blocks were built in the late 1960's or early 1970's at the time of the US moon landings. (In the Croydon suburb of New Addington there is public house, built during the same period, called The Man on the Moon.)
